involved in handling and transporting dangerous goods. Combining a thorough course curriculum
harmonized with industry-wide standards and experience, our courses are designed to give you
the knowledge and tools necessary for creating a safer and more efficient work environment.

Overview
Bureau of Dangerous Goods training courses are taught by recognized professionals who emphasize
safety and compliance with the regulations. Students participating in standard training courses, on-site corporate courses, or
customized courses will come away with practical working skills and up-to-the-minute information required to help make
sound, cost-effective decisions.

This course is designed to satisfy all relevant regulatory training requirements, including the U.S.
Department of Transportation's general awareness/familiarization, function specific, safety and hazmat security awareness training. The
course also covers the related transportation requirements of 49 CFR as required in §171.12 for shipments originating,
transiting or destined for the United States.

This three-day combination course provides students with an initial understanding in how to prepare dangerous goods for
shipment via ground, ocean and air.
A copy of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, U.S. Title 49 Code of Federal Regulations, North American Emergency Response Guide, Bureau Work Reference Guide, pens and highlighters
are included in the enrollment fee of this course. Lunch and beverages are also included. The 2008 49th edition of the IATA DGR is
required for this course. If the student brings their own copy of the most recent IATA DGR, $75.00 USD may be deducted from the enrollment
fee. Class each day begins promptly at 9:00AM EST and ends approximately at 5:00PM EST.
Students must make their own hotel and transportation arrangements, if necessary.

General Course Description
The introductory level course to the IMDG code covers all U.N. hazard classes, excluding Class 7 for Radioactive Materials,
and consists of lectures, exercises, handouts and instructive question and answer sessions. A comprehensive examination
is conducted at the end of the course and a formal Certificate of Training is awarded upon successful completion.
Students will receive the skills necessary to document, classify, prepare, offer and accept shipments of hazardous materials
intended for vessel transport according to the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code. For U.S. based classes,
the related Title 49 CFR requirements are also taught. Each student is provided comprehensive classroom materials that will
become a valuable part of their office library.
The course covers the following topics:
- Development of United Nations Recommendations
- Globally Harmonized System; SOLAS and Marpol Conventions and the IMDG Code (and Title 49 CFR for USA)
- Relationship between each of these publications
- Classification and identification of the nine hazard classes with their main criteria
- Alphabetic/numerical list and precedence of hazards table, special provisions, mixtures, solutions and N.O.S. entries
- Marine Pollutants and Limited Quantities
- U.N. Specification packaging, bulk and non-bulk
- Containerization
- General packing requirements
- Preparation of the Transport Document
- Labeling and Marking
- Compatibility and segregation of packages

IMPORTANT FACTWhile there are no specific regulations in IMDG Code to govern
when recurrent training should take place, US Title 49 CFR §172.704(c)(2) applies in this situation and recurrent training
must take place at least every 3 years.

Monday, May 09, 2005, then your certificate has expired and you may need to take an initial course to be
